This is for anyone who has ever had a bird fly away. Whether it was an accident or not, I encourage you to keep looking for him/her.  Don't give up your search.  Make up flyers and post them around your neighborhood, in pet shops, vets' offices, telephone poles, etc.  Call your local police also to report your missing bird, and contact your local SPCA. The coverage you have, the better your chances.
What helped ME the most finding Cinnamon was putting an ad in the paper IMMEDIATELY!! This is how Cinnamon was safely and successfully returned to me. At night, leave the bird's cage outside with a light on it, should he return. Most birds won't move around at night, but just in case, keep the cage handy with food & water.  My advice to you: DON'T give up the SEARCH for your precious one -- but what's even more important is please don't give up HOPE!

Cinnamon was 18-months-old when he took flight out my door late in October, 1996. The nights were starting to get extremely cold, and needless to say, I was worried sick!  The day Cinnamon was found, I had called the local newspaper to cancel the Lost and Found ad. The clerk remembered me from when I called the first time (I guess I was frantic or something!), and convinced me to "talk to a reporter.....I think this would make a great human interest story." Ah, yes.....and the rest is history!

I hope you enjoy this little story, and I'm hoping that it will serve as a reminder to everyone that miracles DO HAPPEN!!
